Next In Fashion on Netflix

Next in Fashion has made its debut on Netflix. Reminicesecnt of “Project Runway,” the fashion design competition is a 10-episode series. Hosts include“Queer Eye’s” Tan France and designer Alexa Chung.

“Fashion is something that is really appealing and relatable, and so it made sense for us to get into that space considering our viewers around the world,” Netflix vice president of unscripted originals and comedy specials Brandon Riegg told Variety. “It is also an opportunity to gauge the fashion enthusiasm of fans and showcase some amazing talent and stories [from designers], the struggles and the victories, and help them elevate their own brand to the next level through the show.”

So what differentiates “Next in Fashion” from the other fashion designing shows? According to Tan France, “Our runway, is in my opinion, the best you’ll see in a fashion competition show.” France continues to say, “I made it very clear, before I signed, that I would never get involved with a mean show, That’s not my vibe at all. That would go completely against what I do on ‘Queer Eye’ and what we work so hard for on ‘Queer Eye.’ You can have great entertainment without taking the very easy route of knocking people down and just being mean. So at every turn, Alexa and I [stayed positive]. You can critique a look without being nasty.”

Desi Faces Among Contestants

Two of the 18 contestants, two are of South Asian descent! Meet Issac and Nareesh:

Isaac Saqib started Mercy X Mankind in 2014. “ I started the brand when I was 20 years old, so before then I was just a teenager in college focused on getting an A on that next chemistry test lol. I was a bit lazy, a little naive thinking that I’d be able to make it to med school without putting in much effort. But most of all, i think i was just living day to day like any teen without any real passion for effecting the world.” (Kazi Magazine)

Nareesh reveals, “I was born and raised in New Delhi. As a city kid, the hustle and bustle of the metropolis has always kept me on my toes and inspired me to be agile in my ideologies and vision. Having always loved art and fashion, I knew that I would venture into a field that would let me explore my creative sensibilities. Getting into design was no surprise.” (Femina)
